Regular Classes

With his expansive enthusiasm, Alaric brings the great qualities of humour and friendliness to the serious subject of Iyengar Yoga. Those attributes and his deep knowledge of this classical form of yoga have helped me experience what yoga asana and pranayama are really about.

What I appreciate about Alaric's teaching is his ability to perceive what is needed and to apply the Iyengar Yoga system with respect for each individual. He is an brilliant technician with strong, confident, effective adjustment skills. I enjoy Alaric's down-to-earth and dedicated approach, with kindness, really good humour and a lack of pretension. Alaric teaches how to work thoroughly in the postures, without generating strain or stress within the nervous system.

Alaric has been my teacher for 4 years, he is an inspirational practitioner and he has encouraged me to pursue becoming a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. He is a good communicator who generously passes on his knowledge and experience.

Retreats

NEW YEARS You make that so..... significant. I feel extremely fortunate to be there with you and so many special people, with such a lovely atmosphere.   So many laughs, and reflection......You obviously bring an amazing depth of skills to make that possible. Please keep doing what your doing!

Following a week in Portugal with Alaric, I realised that there was so much more to yoga than I had previously thought. I could not believe how much I had learnt in that one week. The other students on the holiday were all fascinating and warm people and it was a joy spending time with them. So much so in fact that I signed up to go on the Tardoun retreat two months later.

As an asthmatic, I had always found that Iyengar yoga had helped relax me and keep my asthma in a manageable state. But by the end of the week in Tardoun, my asthma had virtually disappeared. I felt healthier and happier than I had felt in a very long time.

I have never done quite so much yoga in a week before. Within a couple of days I noticed big changes in my posture, which was wonderful.  It was lovely practising with so many people who are so in to their yoga.  Alaric's energy carried us all through the week, and class was both serious and fun.

I loved the isolation of Le Tardoun. It was so beautiful so peaceful and so cut off. I  loved that you could not get anywhere where there were lots of people or a place  to spend money.

The yoga room was the most beautiful I have ever seen and I have seen some special ones.  It felt like such a sacred space and I loved walking up the hill to get to it. It had a Buddhist feel to it. Our hosts were so discrete but looked after us beautifully in a quite calm way.  The whole environment was conducive to peace and looking inside.

Socially everyone really was lovely so many interesting people and we laughed a lot too.  Everyhting we did felt nourishing. The yoga, the surroundings, the food, the conversation, the walks , dips in the stream and after dinner listening to guitar and  lying on the ground staring up at the most amazing stars and shooting stars I have ever seen.

I came home feeling in peak condition with so much energy.

I find retreats with Alaric to be transformative experiences with generous practice hours, opportunity for quiet time, feeling welcome into the group, and lots of fun!

Teacher Training Course

I was part of Alaric's first teacher training class. I have no knowledge of other teacher training courses but what I do know is that everyone of Alaric's students who took their Introductory Level 2 assessments at the same time as me passed to become teachers - 12 people I think. I observed that Alaric taught us all to be confident, humble, prepared, knowledgeable and clear teachers in the Iyengar system.

To get to this  level is not an easy process. It's not two weeks in India leaving with a suntan and certificate. The course designed by Mr Iyengar and the IYA is rigorous - as it should be. Yoga teachers have a hell of a responsibility.

I found that Alaric understood this and took his responsibility very seriously. He brought his significant experience and knowledge to build and facilitate a very creative atmosphere for learning and discussion. It was disciplined in that there are certain areas in teaching that must never be compromised - clarity of communication, presentation, care for students, preparation; but also informal in that each student was allowed the freedom to explore the teaching style that suited them and not forced into a strict framework.

Be warned though, if you don't want to face your weaknesses, if you don't want to feel pressure in front of a group of your peers, if you never want to feel uncomfortable then don't do this course. If however you want the best grounding in teacher training, if you want to improve your asana, if you want a laugh, if you want to feel supported, if you want to make some great friends then I highly recommend teacher training with Alaric.
